Don't kid yourself... it would not be difficult to make
sure that the proxy is undetectable by log analysis. It
will pull the ads, etc. the same as always, it just
won't send them on to the end-user. I wouldn't rule out
the possibility of being able to come up with some
tricks (via javascript, etc.) that might confound an ad
replacement proxy, but all at a cost of making your
pages cruftier for everyone else. In the end, it's a
lot like fighting software piracy. People might rat
other folks out, you might try including copy
protection (that will make the software less stable or
more difficult to use), but, in the end, you have to
rely on the ethics of the folks out there. If that's
not a warm-fuzzy-generator, then better your odds by
working on developing a -legitimate- way for ISPs to do
local ad replacement.
