I think you are totally off-base here. One, the
majority of users of the web are *not* savy computer
geeks, they are technology idiots. These people do not
have your fancy e-mail clients and they cannot read
HTML email.

The list I am on for the town I live in cannot handle
HTML email and when ever someone sends it the email
come in as an attachment, which the list owner has
blocked. So every single HTML email message bounces.
This is not an uncommon arrangement, BTW.

You MUST allow a ASCII text email option on your sign
up page or you are asking for trouble.

Now, I suppose if your product is only for the
technilogically sophisiticated then it is ok to use the
latest software gadgets, but if you are selling shoes
like I am, well...you have to cater to your market.

Do you know what size is the most common monitor? Not
20" (or larger), not even 17", it is a 12" monitor set
to 640 X 480!!! How many of your web pages are visible
at that setting. My technical people come to me
everyday and say, "Why don't you set your screen to
better resolutions, here let me show you how. Why
don't you get a bigger monitor, this one is tiny." And
everytime I tell them I know how to reset the
resolution of the monitor if I want, I am perfectly
capapble of requitioning a larger monitor if I want,
but I do not want to, why? Because I want to see the
view that the majority of my clients see. If I get a
17" or 22" monitor or reset the resolution of my screen
how will I know what is off the screen for that
majority of my customers who do not have those things.

Look I also am impressed with all the neat tricks one
can do in a fancy new email client, but I would be
stupid to focus all my attention on that if the
majority of my customers can't see it. I want the most
exposure for my sites for the money and right noe that
means I put the majority of my time and effort into
making the text newsletter great.
