There are actually a number of software solutions
that offer the capabilities that you described. Open
AdStream from Real Media (www.realmedia.com/oas)does
this very well. The key is whether a cookie is used
and whether it tracks the visitor once they leave the
site. Open AdStream does not do this, but some other
ad serving technologies do. This little trick can
cause problems for the site as it can be construed by
the visitor as an invasion of Privacy. Ala the Double
Click Lawsuit.
