I guess since this is the third person to ask this (at
least one asked off-list) I should answer it on-list.
I read this figure in an article about 6 months ago.
Unfortunately, I did not save the article (nor it's
URL, if it was on-line). The figure itself was
footnoted to the actual study that came up with it. I
did not actually dig up the original study. I am sorry
I do not remember the citation either.
Sorry, I cannot be of more help.
Just as a side note since there seems to be a lot of
debate about this I posted to an email list I am on
that has nothing to do with computers and asked people
what size monitors they have and where the resolution
of those monitors are set. It will certainly NOT be
scientific, but I will post the results in a day or
two. The list is made up of about 100-150 women (only
one man posts to the list with any regularity) and most
have stated in other contexts that they either use the
web for looking up information or for shopping. Only a
few work in the computer industry and a number are stay
at home moms or running a small business from their
home. The list is for pregnant women (yes, I am) so
all are either mothers or pregnant with their first
child. Seems like pretty typical subset of the
shopping public if you ask me.
