When I last wrote, I mentioned the usefulness of
allowing for different monitor sizes and resolution
settings. Since the conversation was not about speed, I
stayed away from that. But now that someone has brought
it up, I will put in my nickel.

I recently finished a web page for an attorney who will
be targeting clients in South America. The web site has
only one gif picture at 72 dpi. Reason? Loading speed.
We in North America are the lucky bunch with fast
connections, large monitors, fast modems, (cable?). If
you know your market, then you can expect to have your
site viewed.

Flash? Not for me and my designs, animated gifs? Maybe,
fast loading is KING. Clutterless pages and easy
navigation is what gets results. As I tell my clients,
if you want to show off my graphic abilities, let's
make a page just for that, if you want your customers
to stick around for your content, you've got anywhere
from 7 to 15 seconds to load that page.

Monitor sizes is just an added bonus to those who have
smaller monitors and less resolution. The motto? Your
page is for your clients and their equipment, not for
your enjoyment and ego. My ego as a web designer is
tamed, how's yours?
