Outsourcing email and AOL

We are in the process of sending out a newsletter to
our subscribed members. I noticed during the
preliminary test runs that a significant number of
messages were being rejected by AOL spam filters. I
spoke with our AOL rep and their email services
division. We discussued the content and the opt-in
nature of the mailing. They wanted to know from what
mail server the mail would come from. I told them I was
intending to use a third party provider. They told me
that they would be less likely to approve from third
parties and encouraged me to send the mail out using my
own system.

Has anyone else had experience with this?

Any suggestions on techniques for generating a list of
bounced email messages?
