Replacing Banner Ads (Revisited)

Greetings...

You may remember in January we had quite a discussion
about the prospects of robots that click on ads,
automated cyber surfing software that wanders the net
for pay in "Pay you to Surf" and software that would
remove or replace banner ads from web sites.

No need to ask "what will they think of next" -- while
the listees didn't think it's a good idea, obviously
others see a ripe market that doesn't like banners. . .

It's almost as if Paw-Print Software was reading that
whole thread.

They've release a shareware program called Adbin which
integrates with Microsoft Internet Explorer to remove
advertising from web pages as they are downloaded.
Adbin uses an extensible set of rules to identify ads
and when it finds an image that it suspects is an ad,
Adbin replaces it with an image directly from the PC's
local drive.

We're testing the product now for a review in our
sister publication WebDesign & Review, and it seems to
work just swell. We're awaiting a Mac version soon.

Regards

Fred Showker
