I think the frustration you're expressing, Boris, is a
common one on the Web. You could spend a large amount
of time simply researching ways of trying to get
noticed and not get around to implement any of them
(been there, done that :-).
Building traffic to a web site takes more time than
anything. That has been my experience. I used to be on
a list with the a site owner who is now considered one
of the chief authority's in media contacts. She said
it generally takes a site 3 years to grow. I agree.
That's working at it full-time. Of course, there are
cases where sites grow faster. I also don't think new
businesses should compare their site's traffic to the
traffic of sites owned by businesses that have been
around for 20+ years offline.
About 1 year ago if someone told me to keep at it -
that traffic to my site would grow, I would have
laughed at them. Being on lists such as this and
reading about search engine and online PR changes
helps. I also think writing articles and placing
yourself in a position of being an authority in your
area of business is very helpful. To this day I
continue to combine offline promotion with online
success and vice versa. Targeting your audience is a
key ingredient in online success. That lesson has
deepened for me with the passing of time. I have had
my greatest successes when I targeted my audience
tightly.
Keep at it!
