Nope -- they purchased from your site, and that's a
fairly good indication of "permission" to send them at
least one message.

Honestly, if I don't get an online confirmation of my
order, I get worried. If I get a personalized one
(and I did... once) it actually makes me feel better
about my purchase. It makes it feel like more of a
personalized, small business. As a small business
owner myself (both on the Internet and in the "real
world"), I personally like to take my business to
other small, and occasionally struggling :), small
businesses.

Including related items is great. Recommendations are
built into every major online store (if you like this,
you'll like...), but most of the recommendations are
crap. A real human's opinions is a great gateway to
additional sales and happy shoppers.

So in other words... you're doing everything right!
