Independant Audit Necessary?

I will shortly begin selling inventory for a site under
developement. I've read two schools of thought on
whether one needs to secure a third party audit of
site metrics/traffic.

I'd like your informed opinions as to which route you
recommend, pitfalls etc.

We're planning to use a vendor like Webtrends/Aria for
our own needs.
