Content Channel Marketing
Greetings...
Browsing through all the posts here on this list in the
past quarter, I notice there's very little (or no)
interest in "Content Channel" marketing.
While I realize most of the subscribers here are
focused on banner advertising, I'm wondering if anyone
has experimented with content sharing, content
exchanges or cross-content strategies as a means of
traffic building and/or sales.
Is it simply too much work for banner advertisers? Or
is it something that has been tried and discarded
because it isn't successful?
Is anyone here directly involved with the "Content
Exchange"?
I remember following a spam banner link to
ContentExchange.com when they first opened. The ad
promise was: "Put your content to work generating
traffic, while getting free content in exchange"
My interest was putting my content to work bringing in
readers from other sites.
I went there and "registered" to get more information
on how the program works. (At the time, the site was
only a single page with "coming soon, email for info"
links.)
Now, I've gotten my third "newsletter" with as of yet
no reference to the initial promise of a Content
Exchange.
I've written the site owner, but only get canned email
responses saying "Come to the website"
The "incoming" content claim no longer in the formula,
being replaced with "selling" content as a revenue
model.
I'm not at all interested in buying content (having
posted nearly 3,000 web content items since 1994) but
rather put my content into other venue to generate
traffic to my sites.
Know of any sites that put people who generate content
with sites looking for content?
One might assume that Zines would be looking for
content alliances, right? But we approached over 100
of the "compatible" Zines in the Zine directory, and
all except one came back either "addressee unknown" or
canned automated mail-spam-reply saying "thank you for
writing, come to the website to register." The one who
did respond, promised a follow-up proposal, but never
followed through.
Judging on how anxious marketers are to get their
products and services mentioned in the editorial
channel, it's amazing to find so many of them with
their heads in the sand.
Thanks for reading
