Has anyone ever studied this? Is there any research on
the subject? I ask because I don't buy it. Most of the
multimedia I see is a distraction that's at best mildly
amusing and at worst, interferes with using the site. I
think it's often there to entertain the web designer,
not achieve a business goal.

It would be interesting to see actual research into
user attitudes about multimedia.
