We've used DigitalWorks from time to time (usually when
one of the frequent discount offers comes up :-) and
have been generally happy with their service in terms
of responsiveness, ease of use and the fact that their
releases go out via Business Wire.
What has been hard has been tracking the "success" side
of things.
We've spotted the odd release as it has appeared in
online news sources and been pointed at others, but
getting any actual sense for who has picked up the
release/s has been a rather hit and miss affair.
We signed up with WebClippings in the hopes of being
able to do this, as their service sounded quite good,
but got very little in the way of hits on sites not
directly related to us (they check out sites,
publications and USENET mentions -- good idea and I
expect very useful for some).
I kept asking if this had to do with, for example,
dynamic serving of pages in online publications as I
figured this would make it hard to track in any
automated sense, but didn't get a response to that, so
dropped the service.
I'd welcome any ideas people have on this
tracking/measurement side of things -- of course I
want an easy way to do it :-), but I'd settle for even
a couple of time-intensive suggestions just so long as
I can get a feel for the distribution and how far it's
gone.
Cheers,
Vicki Hyde
