Re: spam filter rules

Thank-you to Stuart Hochwert for his May 8 examples of
spam filter rules. The list of strings further
demonstrates the absurdity of relying on filters to
control thoughtless mail. With them in the text, did
everyone receive his message?

> Body contains "order[space]today"

Pity the school that sends the following without the
comma:

> The class will have a substitute teacher tomorrow.
> Please list the children's names in seating order, today.

Apparently making things worse, constructions on the
adult content list suggest that problematic strings
don't need to be whole words. Does that school also
teach adult ... hmm... english?

I suppose some users can set up filters and not feel
compromised or we'd be hearing an uproar by now. But
regardless, filtering currently includes risk, and
takes a significant, ongoing investment in awareness,
training and even software.

That burden shouldn't fall on users or their service
providers just to control mail that's mindlessly
addressed.
