I agree that broadband ads using video may not be
practical for all browsers at this very moment, but
there are certainly other rich media that direct
marketers online are using with great results (such as
Flash which is compatible with 98% of today's browsers
or those that use a streaming delivery to activate the
ad quickly then load the remainder of the file a bit at
a time). These ads, far removed from yesterday's
banner, can help businesses of ALL sizes get sales and
leads and finally offer consumers the opportunity to
interact with the advertiser without ever leaving the
host site (advertisers don't even need their own web
site!). This type of media allows users to purchase
items, complete surveys and even participate in online
auctions right in the ad. I agree that great content
and a well-targeted campaign is vital; but why not add
to that package functionality, results and good looks?
