We have seen great success with buttons vs. standard
banner ads. We are very careful when purchasing buttons
because we want the buttons to look like part of the
site's content instead of a banner ad. If a site can
offer an unusual placement, say 1/2 way down the text
of an article, or immediately underneath a table of
contents nav, we usually go for it. We've seen CTRs
over 1.5%.
