ad servers vs. ad services?
Help! I'm working on a cost/benefit analysis to
determine whether to move towards an in house -- or
site-side -- ad serving solution [AdServer 4 or
AdManager] or an outsourced/ASP ad service [like
DoubleClick DART or AdForce].
First, questions are for anyone who's tried an in-house
installation of a site-side ad serving solution, such
as AdServer or AdManager.
*Approximately what were the initial setup costs, in
terms of man-hours, server hardware, and so on?
*How major have the ongoing maintenance and upgrade
costs been?
*What were the pros of that solution that made you/your
firm move towards an in-house solution?
*Based on what I understand about the technology, using
a site-side server could cause a major drag on our page
load-time, as a result of having the ad serving logic
and image serving all pulling on the same page servers.
Was that your experience?
Next, questions are for anyone who's tried the
outsource/ASP model:
*How long did it take to incorporate the new HTML tags
in your site [based on how many pages were in the site
overall?]
*How reliable did you find the selected service in
terms of uptime and support?
Any and all input/thoughts on this in-house vs.
outsource debate are greatly appreciated!
Best,
Lisa
