At BUZZ 2000: Beyond PR as Usual earlier in the month,
virtually all the journalists who spoke (including
senior technology correspondent John Markoff of the
New York Times, senior editor Steven Levy of Newsweek,
editor Amy Johns of eCompany Now and several other
national US technology journalists) agreed that they
preferred e-mail pitches to snail mail pitches.

But they also said most of their story ideas were self
generated; that they don't like press release spam;
and that personal or custom pitches have a better
chance of getting their attention compared to the spam
blasts so many of us get. They recommended e-mail be
short, sweet & contain links back to your web site so
they can get additional information if they like and
simply hit delete if they don't. Dunno if this is the
kind of info you needed but hope its helpful.

cheers,
db
