Marketing thru media

Hi

Does anyone have any experience in marketing through
the media, such as online/offline magazines, newpaper,
etc? Is this an effective marketing tool?

Our internet company will be launched soon. When we
start, we will only have very few members. Is this a
good time to send press releases to the media? Is it
better to wait until our site grow to a certain size
before inviting media to visit and write about us?

Please advise.
