Am I in the search engines

To All,

I am very new to all this so please bear with me. I
have submitted my site to the major search engines but
have no idea if I was successful in doing so or not. If
someone could please tell me---will I get notified in
some way by the engine or do I have to check it out
some way to determine if I did successfully submit my
site? What do I do?????
