Re: Seth Godin's new book
Well I've finally digested Seth Godin's Idea Virus - I
think it's great reading and gives a lot of food for
thought. The only thing missing is that most people
will need help figuring out what kind of ideavirus to
launch for their respective business.
The other thing that Seth and other popular people have
that most of the population do not have is "star"
power, clout. What I mean is that Seth explained how
he launched his ideavirus and one HUGE boost I'm sure
was it's launch in FastCompany Magazine....how many of
us will get anything we've written in Fast Company
Magazine.....much less on the cover.
An idea virus is great. Heck I've written the Small
Business Technology Survival Kit (
technologyandyourbiz-subscribe_at_onelist.com ) but I sure
tell you - I'm NOT going to pull thousands or millions
of people to it like Seth and other people with
"clout" have done.
Giving things away for free, in order to get more
attention and expand your potential audience base is a
tried and true marketing tactic - and it works.
HOWEVER, to get an ideavirus - like a HotMail or other
popular viruses started takes a lot more than a good
idea and good product.
