False. On multiple accounts.

A given advertisement email takes on average (assuming
1 *small* 1K email) 3.5 seconds per completed
transaction (email wise). Seems small, but yes, there
are indeed people in the US who pay for their
connection time.

Additionally, there is the cost in terms of network
traffic, server processing and storage, and logspace.
If a message bounces, the costs increase faster.

False. Spam is almost universally accepted as
unsolicited commercial email. If someone asks to get
advertisiements, or agrees to as part of some bargain
(thinking of the 'free' services, such as egroups), it
is not spam.
