Re: Opt-in email

I am new to the online marketing world and I just want
to share some of my very recent experiences. These
days, I think people are very sensitive about seeing
ads in their mailbox and newsgroup.

Just a few days ago, I came across a mailing list that
was related to the service that we are providing. I
emailed that mailing list and introduced them to our
site and explained how our site can benefit them.

Still, I got some replies complaining that my email was
spam. Then, I had to apologize to everyone on that
list so that I didn't damage the image of our newly
established company.

Maybe my message should be more informal? Maybe my
message was too much like an ad? I don't know. Any
thoughts to this?

That was also the reason why I disliked even the opt-in
list. The reason is because people won't see the mail
and they will hate whoever sent out the mail...

Anyway, other than emailing people, can anyone suggest
other, more effective means to do online marketing?
