One of the best things we did before launching our
software was to give people the opportunity to ask to
be informed of the software when it was ready. If you
have the site close to completion (that is, it looks
professional and provides a good vision of what the
completed site will have to offer), you may want to
upload it to your server (if you haven't already) and
include an option for visitors to leave their email
addresses if they wish to be informed of your
site/product when it is ready. An alternative is to
provide this opportunity on another site, either your
own or a partner site.

This way, you are already beginning to establish
relationships with potential customers who have given
you permission to email them directly once your site
is complete.
