Kyle,
At this point in the net's history, a re-design of an
existing site, or even an announcement of that site is
probably not adequate to get press coverage.
If you're trying to get publicity in the media, try to
have a newsworthy hook about your site. Perhaps you've
set some kind of milestone for downloads? Or time your
release it with the beginning of a new semester or
schoolyear (although most teachers may have their
lesson plans set up already for September by now.) As
for formatting, look at one of the major newswires
like PR Newswire and see how those companies format
their release -- then make it shorter.
You can find the right media using a media directory
like Bacon's, or search the net using keywords you
know are related to the site's topic.. You can also
buy lists from places like Gebbe and MediaMap that
will have contact info. and email addresses. Good Luck!
