Re: Online Press Releases
Lisa,
If you are targeting computer/tech editors at computer
and 'net trade magazines, I'd say it would be safe to
send e-mail news releases, since these editors tend to
be more comfortable with e-mail.
For other trade and especially consumer media, you might
want to stick with regular snail mail or fax. My company
is a marketing communications firm and I work primarily
in PR/media relations. In late 1999, I sent an informal
survey to 165+ key editors I deal with on behalf of
clients. The purpose of the survey was to find out how
these (mostly) trade editors use the Internet and if
they'd prefer to be e-mailed news releases and images,
rather than mailed. Of the 30 surveys returned, about
eight said they rather be e-mailed stories.
So, you might want to try something similar. Call a
handful of key editors and ask if they prefer to receive
stories via e-mail, fax or mail. Plus, the one-on-one
contact might begin to establish a relationship with
these key editors and familiarize them with your company.
Feel free to contact me if you have any specific questions.
Good luck.
Michael
