Re: Online Press Releases
Is anyone else bothered by this?

In any job where I have been an "editor," I have not
been expected to clean up mistakes made by those
putting out a release. I have caught them - but
have not been "expected" to find them. Editing is one
thing - to slough it off and expect an editor to edit
YOUR copy and then correct it is another and will get
you on my "don't bother" list very quickly.
I have done PR releases in the past. I get in the
press exactly what I allow when I distribute them. And
if they are written badly enough, I won't get
anything.
I am in the middle of massive redesigns of some
previously established web sites. A lot of things that
were slapped up with that attitude will no
longer make the cut. Unfortunately, it is the type of
attitude I have found recently among some traditional
advertising and public relations agencies. "If it's web,
throw them the slop and let them clean it up."
Anita - I know you didn't mean it that way - but I hear
too many web denizens saying this type of thing and I
fear it is becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. It is
not only your post, but I have seen a generally
attitude permeating the list. It is something those of
us who want to make a living on the Web should avoid if
we really want to be taken seriously in the future.
