Chris,
Do not worry, I believe in every netizens opinion, what
you engaged in was not Spam. Spam as I understand it is
blanketing the net with useless information. Even
though you may have sent a blind email to him (not
contacting him via phone--or meeting personally) still
not Spam. I would recommend though that a pre contact
be made via phone or in person (even a voicemail
telling that person what you are doing) before an email
is sent. This, because via a database it is easy to
construct a personalized message that looks warm and
funny, but is for all intensive purposes, Spam.
