Well as an extremely active and known anti-spammer,
involved in most of the major anti-spam groups, and
knowing such people as those that operate the various
blacklists - perhaps you would like my subjective
opinion on this.
I would say that your email is totally legitimate, and
in no way can be construed as spam, and that the person
with whom you communicated was over-reacting for
whatever reason.
Spam has many characteristics, which I won't go into
here - but suffice it to say that your one off,
appropriately focussed, and well meaning email does not
equate to any of those characteristics.
We need to fight spam on all fronts wherever we
encounter it, but at the same time we must not suppress
the genuine communications value of the Internet in the
furtherance of eCommerce.
