ICC's position regarding UCE for B2B
Hi Folks,
The other day I was visiting a web site and came across
the following = policy in the company's Rules and
Regulations:
QUOTE:
No unsolicited commercial e-mail, be it to one person
or a mass = solicitation, is permitted to obtain
perspective (sic) clients. This is = called "spamming"
and it violates communication regulations.
END QUOTE.
The policy appeared on a B2B site for a company
planning to announce a = new international financial
service. It seemed unnecessarily restrictive = to me,
so I questioned one of the principals about the
"communication = regulations". I was told there is an
ICC rule that prohibits sending = even one unsolicited
commercial email to one person. An attorney friend =
confirmed the ICC rule.
Still, I'm not so sure and being from the "Show Me"
state I'd like to = dig a little deeper. Is anyone on
this list familiar with whether the = ICC has such a
rule?
BTW, I respect a company's right to establish internal
spam policy. In = this case, though, I think they are
simply using "communication = regulations" as a crutch.
Regards to all,
