Banners vs. Performance Ads

Hello,

I am responsible for the allocation of ad space on our
medium-sized (100k visitors/month) travel guide.

At present we are running CPM banner and button ads on
our content pages which work quite well, but we are
considering replacing those with affiliate programs
that would, indeed, be better targeted to our audience.
The question is: will this increase our income?

Is there anyone that is or or has been in a similar
position that has experiences on the actual revenue
from affiliate programs as compared to banners? I would
be greatly thankful for any comments.
