MODERATOR'S NOTE: Wrap up on Online Ads Subscription Drive

Back on May 9th, we started a subscription drive for
this list. At the time, we had 9,620 subscribers. We
asked members of this list to help us spread the word
about the list throughout their company, and used a
donation to the American Cancer Society of $0.50 per
additional subscriber by August 1 as an incentive for
people to spread the word in a viral fashion.
Adtegrity.com volunteered to match our donation at
$0.25 per additional subscriber. Our goal was to reach
20,000 subscribers by August 1, and to do so on a very
limited budget.

I wanted to give members of this list some feedback on
what happened during the subscription drive.

We ended up with 13,604 subscribers by August 1.
However, our membership has continued to build at a
very high rate since the promotion ended, and we
currently have 16,463 subscribers. We now expect to
reach the 20,000 subscriber mark sometime during
October.

There were days during the summer where we would see
massive influxes of new subscribers, all from the same
company domain name -- indicating that someone at the
company had spread the word about the list. Thanks to
all of you that got the word out!

We also ran a number of ad trades between Tenagra's
"Beyond Year 2000" mailing list (reaches about 60,000
professionals mostly in the IT industry) with a number
of other email publications such as Web Marketing Today
and Web Digest for Marketers. Each of these brought
new subscribers. But the single most productive ad
that ran was when Freeservers.com ran our ad to their
members mailing list as a resource to help their
members learn about marketing their web sites. We had
no idea they were going to run the ad, but the response
was incredible and we sure appreciated the plug.

A check will be going out to the American Cancer
Society via United Way for $2988 based on the total
number of subscribers gained. Thanks to Adtegrity.com
for being a co-sponsor of the drive and thanks to all
of you that helped spread the word about this list
throughout your company. The more people that
participate in the list and contribute their expertise
and experience, the greater value the list will have
for all the subscribers. Keep on getting the word out!
