HI, although I've been reading this discussion list for
a few months now, this is my first reply. I have
learned many valuable lessons from the experienced
contributors to this forum - Thank you!

In the early days of our site we engaged one of the
large adserving firms to assist us with publishing ads
on our site. We chose this route as we did not have
the manpower to manage advertisers and the necessary
reporting/tracking required. However, now that we have
learned from this relationship, we have plans to take
over our advertising management when our agreement
expires. The ad revenues we were expecting using the
firm, fell far short of what we have actually realized.
This is due in part to the climate for banner ads and
the fact that we were part of a network of sites vs.
being sold directly as a distinct site. We are our
best "spokesperson". Proactively we have recently
contacted many sites which we feel offer relevant
content. We did this via phone and email and have
received many favorable replies. Many sites offer a
link to request advertising information, and by
completing their request forms we began to receive
immediate replies. Over the past few weeks we began
instituting these relevant affiliates and have been
able to generate revenue that exceeds the ad revenues
generated by the outside firm.
