As a publisher I would like to add that "pay per
visitor" schemes are infinitely more attractive to
publishers than "pay by commissions", and will achieve
a more consistent long term result.
The rationale is simple - I can send visitors to a
merchants site, but I have absolutely no influence over
what the visitor does once there - that is the the
responsibility of the merchant entirely. So we
publishers should be rewarded based on what we have
achieved for the merchant - sending the potential
customer - what happens then is beyond our control and
down to the merchant.
Any site who does not offer "pay per visitor" to me at
least has not got the courage of their convictions to
the extent that they can translate visitors to sales.
