People finder

Hi All:

I am working on a project which offers a People Finder
type of service for the entire community which has
something to do with IT. We are calling it internally
IT People Finder. Now I have hit a road block in terms
of Privacy issues. The questions that are dogging me
are:

1. Am I violating privacy clauses when my search
function puts up information about people (this might
include their contact details and demographic info)

2. By doing so Am I exposing my users to spamming

How do I tackle these issues. How are big guys such as
Lycos and Yahoo tackling this. Please throw some light
on this.
