I completely disagree. I think people want more
in-depth reporting from radio and TV. I know I do. I
listen to NPR (national public radio) specifically to
get those 8 minute news stories. The way TV news is
set up there is only 22 minutes of news in half hour
news show, so 8 minutes is a *huge* chunk of time.

Now granted, I listen in the car as I travel. I do not
know if I would stick around for that if I were not
indispossed anyway, but I know that on the weekends
when I only read a newspaper, I miss NPR.
