Lawrence,
Yes, there's an art to this. But start with a very well
written piece that a lazy reporter might just be able
to plug in as his/her day's work. (That's what my
company does, of course.)
Then fax or email, follow up with a call, fax or email
again when they tell you they didn't get it, call again
with a great leading question to get them to pull it
out and read it -- and then give them some more juicy
tidbits that they can add to the story. And, have fun
with it -- they'll enjoy the call when your people are
enjoying the call.
More of an art than a science...
