I mentioned a couple of days ago that I was getting
dismal responses on these banners. Now that I'm
getting the kinks worked out of the system and have
better statistics to look at, I'm seeing superior
click-thru rates as compared to my 468x60 banners.
It's too soon to determine if this pattern will hold.
The novelty of the 125x125 button may be partly
responsible for the higher click-thru rates (many are
1.1% or better, 1 is as high as 5%). If that's the
case, then the rates should decline.
A few buttons are getting as low as .4% click-thrus.
These are also new advertising designs, and the
freshness of the ad campaigns may have something to do
with the increased rate, too.
Nonetheless, I felt some followup might be worthwhile.
Nearly all of these ads are for internal promotion
(relevant to my domain alone). 1 external button ad
which I did not design and am running for another site
as a courtesy has, so far, not earned any click-thrus
since I reset the statistics.
Right now, I'm only slowly converting pages to carry
these banner buttons. With so little inventory
devoted to the network at this time, I'm only
averaging about 1500 exposures a day.
I would still be interested in seeing what success
other people have experienced with these types of ads,
whether used for internal promotion or otherwise. I
will soon set up a multi-site network to help
self-published authors promote each other's books
using these kinds of ads. Everything I can learn
about what to do, what not to do with these ads will be
helpful in that endeavor.
