Search Engines that Deliver
Hi,
Here's a question on search engines for the group:
Our web site gets the lion's share of its
search-engine-referred traffic from four or five
sites-- Yahoo! (including links in their directory and
a number of other places we get links for our content),
Altavista, Google, MSN Search. (Here, actually, are the
top ten referrals we got yesterday.)
Most active referring domains during period:
yahoo.com 278 referrals
google.com 129 referrals
altavista.com 103 referrals
msn.com 48 referrals
go.com 35 referrals
fr.netscape.com 28 referrals
voila.fr 28 referrals
aol.com 17 referrals
metacrawler.com 16 referrals
(The french search engine "voila.fr" shows up because
our site is partly targeted at a European audience.)
Now, here's my question: It makes sense that Yahoo!,
google and altavista come in first in our traffic
because they're the among most popular search sites,
certainly. But what about the others? Are they low
because those sites are correspondingly less popular,
or because we have lousy coverage/ranking/placement in
those sites? What are people's experiences with these
matters?
Thanks for any information you have.
