All of the above, plus search engines have different
demographics and people use different search tools
depending upon what they are looking for.

We provide online marketing for many sites and see
different search engines at the top for each site.
Yahoo typically leads in all of them. Online yellow
pages usually don't figure in, except for one client
which is a local private school. Yellow pages are this
client's third highest referrer.

It is not unusual for a specialized directory to be one
of the top referrers, e.g. a directory of alternate
health sites. That is why we make it a point to locate
and list in all the relevant directories we can find
for a site.
