[snip unhappy Yahoo! experience]
I'm guessing you'd rather be listed in the Electronic
Commerce category than the Australian Electronic
Commerce category. I can't fully comment on your
example. There is a great deal you haven't mentioned.
The "electronic commerce" term is highly competitive
on Yahoo! They have 130 categories and over 900
listings.
And if you were targeting the keywords "electronic
commerce" as I have guess, your title and description
aren't helping you in the least. Your description
doesn't mention the words "electronic commerce". In
fact, about the only phrase in your description that
might be used for a search term is "web developers",
and since that phrase doesn't show in your title, I
doubt you'd rank well for that on Yahoo!.
A good title, a good description, and good placement
all go hand-in-hand on Yahoo!. I think you should
look into consulting with a Yahoo! placement expert.
But if you're really going after "electronic commerce",
you've taken on a huge challenge. If you want a hint,
look at the description for "U.S. Government
Electronic Commerce Policy" (that's an actual listing
near the top). Yahoo's query tool looks for certain
things. The directory is separate from the querry
engine. I don't think most people realize that.
Category is not as important as you seem to feel it is.
