I'm currently serving several hundred thousand page
views a month. How many ads do I serve? No idea any
more. I've been switching out banner networks as I've
redesigned my content as I've consolidated it from
multiple servers. I WAS using AdRotator from AdButler
(now something else), but that system is less than
optimal. And I was also running Microsoft's banner
network to help promote my domain. I have tried a few
of the smaller paid-ad networks but got very little
paying traffic.
That said, I'm serving about 2800-3000 125x125 banner
ads a day with Webadverts on my own domain. We're
also running a 400x50 banner exchange for about 100
fan sites (some of which also get hundreds of thousands
of page views a month). And then I recently started a
free banner exchange (credits don't have to be earned)
for self-promoting authors, and we're also using
Webadverts for that.
Finally, we're carrying three banners per page on a
growing number of pages (I've got around 600 converted
and am still working on 20-25,000 more) from
eUniverse.
Figure about 4 banners per page for, say, 1000 pages
(uniquely) served per day. The actual number of page
views is probably in the neighborhood of 12,000 per
day. I'm still a small fry unless you count the other
domains for which we serve banners. Webadverts is
working fine, but I'm not sure how long I'll stay with
it. It has some limitations that are really starting
to get on my nerves.
But we're running off a virtual server account on a Sun
Solaris Greek God or something system. Enterprise
quality power. We tried to move our forums to a Linux
server and it sank quickly. IMHO, nothing beats a
Sun....
