Long time lurker here jumping into the fray ...
My site is listed in Yahoo!, but unfortunately it's
placed so deep into a regional category that I hardly
receive a blip of visitors from them.
As a somewhat biased observer, Yahoo! appears to favour
Americans ... if my site was listed along side my
competitors, I'd be dancing on the rooftops.
Ironically, over 90% of our online sales are from
Americans, so why Yahoo expects that non-American sites
choose a regional category is beyond me.
I, for one, am quite cautious about their new
submission policy, as I expect that with any new sites
we launch, they'll want to bury us in a regional
category ... but they'll take our money for sure,
without notifying us that we can't submit to a main
category (which I suspect may be Matt's gripe as well).
I digress though ... I merely want to say that your
statement about "getting TONS of traffic ..." is
erroneous or misinformed, but is probably quite true
for US-based sites.
For example, try http://ca.yahoo.com (Yahoo Canada) and
you'll see that the search defaults to "all sites", not
just Canadian ones ... only the most savvy (or
non-lazy) people will check "Canadian sites only" I
presume.
I'd love to give them (and other directories) my money,
but only if I can dictate exactly where I can submit my
site ... if they want to become Global Yellow Pages,
then I should be allowed to tell them, not
vice versa.
