Internet Radio Stations

I am currently looking at piloting a radio advertising
campaign in the New York area and have come across
internet radio stations. We have come across this as
an alternative to live radio broadcasting and as a
potential place to advertise. One example is a station
called FMcities.com which operates 1,350 internet radio
stations and information websites through North
America. Each city site features 50 different music
formats (from rock to classical, from jazz to R&B, from
country to folk) together with news and sports, and
traffic, weather and local information. They seems to
be more reasonably priced than live radio but I am
wondering how effective they are and would like to
harness a few opinions around this subject.
