Re: Keywords or key phrases
Hello,
I'd like to respond to Kevin's question involving
Search Engine Optimization in general and specifically,
the use of Keywords.
Kevin asks: "Am I better off promoting phrases or
Individual words in my keywords?"
Good question. It_s one that trips-up lots of folks
using the engines.
Very definitely, you want to use keyword phrases. In
other words, more than singular keywords.
The reason_s twofold: First of all, if you use single
words, you_ll be competing against way too many sites
that also use that keyword. The result, you_re much
more likely to get a very low listing especially if
you_re just starting off.
Second: The more specific you are, the better quality
traffic you_ll get. (Generally, the more specific you
are, the more keywords are required).
Consider this.
If you're a travel website selling package deals to the
Caribbean and you use the word _Travel_ as a keyword,
you may get traffic for people who like winter travel
to Colorado.
Not what you want.
On the other hand, if your keyword phrase is, _package
deals to Caribbean_, you_re up against MUCH less
competition AND you_ll be visited by Qualified Traffic.
By that I mean ONLY by folks who are predisposed to
your message folks seeking package deals to
Caribbean.
And we know qualified traffic is much more likely to
convert.
For your particular instance, you_d want to go with,
children sport apparel"
That_s just part of the puzzle. To properly optimize
you have to be cognizant of the keyword phrases in the
body of your individual pages, their density and
frequency and how to use them optimally in your HTML.
I hope this is helpful, Kevin.
All the best,
Sid.
