Search engine optimization and placement

Hi,
 
I learn something new everyday from this community, and
my inquiry has been discussed by many of you. So here
it goes, I have researched a few options for search
engine optimization and placement but nothing really
appeals more than the other. Basically you pay for
keywords/phrases helping with search engine placement,
or you pay for click throughs as a result of
keywords/phrases chosen. I don't have a problem
finding keywords/phrases to generate more qualified
visitors to our Web site, it's more what the end
result, will any of them generate the qualified
visitors I'm looking for. I'm sure many of you have
researched and experienced such services. Which do you
feel is a wiser investment?
