I am running ads on my long-standing library-related
indexes, the latest incarnation being Libdex:
http://www.libdex.com

The main audience, of course, is librarians, and I
occasionally get an irate librarian telling me to get
rid of ads because they are a nuisance and have nothing
to do with the content of the site. On the other hand,
I get praised sometimes for pointing out useful
resources i.e. The Electric Library (which earns me $15
per sign-up). I also find that ads for free internet
service are very popular and am often thanked for
running them.

Librarians tend to be 'net purists i.e. they used the
Internet before the .coms came along and hate the ads.
But I am seeing a trend whereby libraries are running
affiliate links on their own sites. See:

for some examples.
