Hi Michelle,

The first thing I have to tell you is that traditional
advertising and online advertising has no silver
bullet. If there were, EVERBODY would be using it.

In answer to your question: Certainly over the long
haul, it's cheaper to go for the totality of a service,
rather than click thrus.

You must bear in mind that it takes time to have an
effective SEO program. That's because after you get
listed, you have to prune your page to increase the
density of the keyword phrases that are working for
you. This process continues because it gets you where
you want and it keeps you well ranked. That's why, over
the long haul, it would make more sense to not to go
with click thrus, as it would get expensive.

Also, it's simple for a SEO specialist to get you a #1
ranking right off the bat. The only problem is, the
term wouldn't be competitive and therefore there would
be no traffic looking for that particular keyword. You
want keyword phrases that are well ranked AND
competitive in other words, phrases that lots of people
are looking for. That's the trick.

Also, establishing what a competitive keyword phrase
is, can get tricky.

Finally, as you point out, one of the biggest benefits
of SEO is that _they're searching for you._ Unlike
banners, folks actively seek out your goods or services
based on the keyword phrase they enter in search
engines.

That's powerful.

Consider it. You're a travel agent who specializes in
ski trips to the French Alps. Now imagine someone
entering the following in a search engine's search
field: ski packages to French alps.

If this person lands on your site, you KNOW that
they're qualified! They want what you offer.

No matter how qualified the traffic, there are never
any guarantees they will convert. But there's a much
greater likelihood qualified traffic will convert. And
search engines draw QUALIFIED traffic.

Hope this is helpful, Michelle.

Regards,
Sid.
