As a Flycast affiliate I found myself dismayed that
these popups were appearing on my site without prior
notification. I did, however, look forward to an
increase in revenue (as it has been rather bad lately).
I had talked to someone serving the same
advertisements I was through a different network
earning $10 CPM or more on the popups alone (without
the banner). I was expecting something similar when I
noticed I was running these ads as well.

I was very disappointed to see that Flycast had sold
these ads at $2 or LESS CPM. That equates, under
their new forced contract, to $1 for me.

Naturally I was disappointed so I canceled the popups.

One other thing -- there are a lot more used and
accepted programs that kill popup windows than banner
ads. Popups are more likely to be killed off before
they're even seen; but at the same time those that see
them do tend to respond much better.

One of my sites serves the same 468x60 graphical ads on
the page, and also as popups (depending on where on
the site you are). Despite having the same relative
content, the popups deliver about 4x the CTR (around 5%
versus 1.22% or so).

I personally think it is much better to have a popup
alone, rather than Flycast's hybrid banner/popup
scheme. If users see too many ads (even if they are
the same company) they can be overwhelmed.
