Hello,
Experimentation with new Internet advertising formats
is a critical process so I can't fault Engage/Flycast
for implementing pop-up windows. They are highly
effective when used correctly.
My company, the European Internet Network (EIN)
(www.europeaninternet.com) experienced the
Engage/Flycast pop-up ads several months ago and we had
a rash of complaints which resulted in suspending them
within about 48 hours. One of the pop-ups in particular
served by Engage/Flycast acted more like a virus then
an ad as it opened new windows every time a window was
closed.
We have since implemented an in-house pop-up window
strategy which has proven very successful. EIN pop-ups
are controlled by cookies so no one user gets more than
one pop-up per 24 hour period on any of our 18
websites. Our audience (800,000 monthly users) has
become accustomed to small, relatively unobtrusive
windows.
My Advice: Pop-ups are powerful tools for direct
response but they must be carefully evaluated before
they go live on your site.
